WiSTEM supports the Women’s Institute of Secondary Education & Research (WISER), an organization that provides healthcare, education, and housing to impoverished girls in Kenya; WiSTEM donates $3000 every year to support Hilary, a student at WISER.
During this meeting, club members Skyped with Zack Fowler, Executive Director at WISER and our liaison. He explained many of the challenges that the girls face as well as how WISER's holistic approach helps. For example, by providing the funds and opportunities to allow girls to get an education, the students don't have to worry about supporting their family or engaging in dangerous transactional sex.
It was truly inspiring to learn about the amazing work WISER is doing, and Harker WisTEM is honored to be working with Zack.
